About J bottles series

J bottle series are made of porcelain which the artist used mostly for her works since she got influences by the white porcelain pottery of 16th century while visiting National Museum of Korea in Seoul, South Korea. She felt fascinated by the discovery of traditional ceramic which also embraces modernity in shape and forms. Since then she has been using white porcelain mostly for her works.

The bottles are formed through slip casting technique from several main bodies of the plaster moulds and then added with different ornament parts such as the neck, mouth and foot.

After the third firing for a decal decoration, they become unique pieces. The patterns are mostly circle and square shapes and thin lines. The colours she uses for the pieces are mainly white, black, red, blue and yellow.

These colours were used in korean traditional arts and crafts to wish a good fortune and luck.

They represent the 5 elements which are fire, water, wood, metal and earth that composes the universe. And they are also the essential elements for ceramic making.

The white emptiness that can be found in the pieces serves to transmit a feeling of peace and calm and the beauty of whiteness and simplicity.
